Bio:
Typeface designer
Panos Haratzopoulos was born in Athens (1967). He holds a degree in Graphic Design from the Technological Educational Institute of Athens and an MA in Graphic Fine Arts from the University of Kent, England. In 1995 he established Fonts.Gr (originally Cannibal) with Yannis Kouroudis. Fonts.Gr (Greek Digital Type Library) is an Athens based foundry expertise on Greek typeface design with the participation of Yannis Karlopoulos and Vassilis Georgiou. Since 2007 he collaborates regularly with Commercial Type in designing Greek extensions. Throughout the years he has designed a great number of Greek extensions for other prolific foundries such as Lineto, House Industries, Letters from Sweden, Klim Type, Dinamo, Typotheque, Font Bureau, Berthold, Monotype/Fontshop, Emigre and many more.
He has also designed original fonts for museums, companies or state organisations in Greece. Panos’ collaboration with Y. Karlopoulos and V. Georgiou on the “Stella Project” (2013-2018), a study of the forgotten art of greek calligraphy between the ’50s through the ’70s gained great publicity in Greece, resulting in the production of original typefaces vastly used in Greek packaging and signage, an exhibition at the Benaki Museum, public television documentary and a number of lectures and workshops in Greece and Cyprus. Between 2010-2018 Panos taught Typography in the University of Western Attica (formerly TEI of Athens). Panos has undertaken major graphic design projects for museums, companies and organisations. Since 2014 he works as design consultant for the Bureau International des Exposition (BIE), the Intergovernmental Organisation based in Paris in charge of overseeing and regulating all international exhibitions.
